I fish a local lake that if it's dead calm in the late spring through fall ---without clouds , your not gonna get many bites . The last three weeks I have been out , very windy , 15-20mph with gusts even higher .
my total catch rate has been amazing --- jerk baits off edges with weeds forming along those edges . One day ( 5 hours of fishing ) was 21 bass , two biggest were 7.6 and 6.4 with my best five pushing 28lbs .
Last week it was slower , but I had a 8+ on and lost it at the boat .
I love Megabass jerkbaits but the quality seems lacking , especially breaking off the lips !!!

Do you realize the troughs of a 6-8 foot swell could be 1.5 - 2 X deeper? So you are saying you are fishing , in a bass boat, in waves that could have 10-16 feet deep throughs?

Your gonads are large and probably hairy

Actually the worst time on Big Sam I was not even driving. I was a co angler in a BASS Federation Top Six State tournament. We were fishing up in Harvey and when we headed back to Twin Dykes we didn't know how bad it was until we got out in it. The Black Forest was to our right so we had to head straight down the middle. The waves would come in 3's and that 22' Bullet would run up the first wave, come down the trough and head back up the second wave and repeat on the third wave unfortunately on about 8 to 10 occasions we would spear the third wave and about 3 feet of water would come over our head. We were in snow suits and the water temps were 49. All I could think of was if we stall out in the middle of this lake Hypothermia could be a real issue. Finally we made it in almost 2 hours later. I pretty much got out of the boat, dropped down and kissed the ground, then got up and took my bag to weigh in.
Won't let myself get caught in that situation anymore.

🙋‍♂️

That’s me (but I primarily fish out of a kayak).

Not these winds! Not MY friend! Throwing a rattletrap on a windy point w/winds of 15-20mph? Wind is “my friend”. 20-30mph w/gusts to 40? Not so much!

I know what you mean about the “i don’t remember it being this…” but this has been the third windiest year on record with an average of 15.6 mph each day.

I have an uncle that used to salmon fish out of Santa Cruz , Calif . It was a side job and he had a commercial license .
His first boat was a 14 foot Boston Whaler with a 60 horse Johnson and rigged with two side downriggers using 10lb balls .
The first time I went out with him , we went out approx 10 miles offshore with 10 foot swells , 6 to 8 seconds apart . He didn't know how to swim and never brought lifejackets .
Never been so sea sick in my life and probably one of the dumbest things I have ever done --- I was twelve .
That fishing story out of Rayburn fighting those swells sounds just as dumb

I'm switching over to deep water fishing now so it's C Rigs and big massive crank baits until fall gets here. Wind is a whole lot less of an issue.
