had some trees cut down in the back yard and the trucks really compressed the soil and grass is no longer growing there
was wondering if I could buy a few pieces of sod, cut them up (maybe in 4-6 sections) and plant them scattered along the bare spots hoping they eventually spread and cover the lawn
or if you would do it differently please advise..yard is a mixture of fescue and centipede
thanks

You could do that. Would be a good idea to run a core aerator on any compressed soil and fill in any dips or bumps with mason sand. If you go with Centipede do not use a fertilizer with any phosphorous in it. (the middle number) See if you can find something like a 15-0-15. If not go with something like Scotts turf builder which is a 32-0-10
