For the plumbers out there, In your experience How reliable is a SharkBite connection? I changed a supply valve on a toilet and I broke it off near the wall. I called several plumbers and next week was the earliest they could get here. I didn't want to be without water so I went to Lowe's and bought a valve with a SharkBite on the wall side. It is working fine but was wondering if I should get the plumber to sweat on a new valve. Wondering about reliability of it. any thoughts?

This^^^^^. I’m not a plumber but, I have used these in our house on PVC/CPVC without any issues. I just made sure to measure exactly like the instructions stated and not press it on too far. I did buy the go-no gauge or whatever you call it to measure the pipe. You can use a tape measure although I bought the gauge to be more accurate.

I have a plumber coming today to extend our outdoor faucets for some rockwork, they don't sweat fittings any more (this co. doesn't anyway).
they have fittings with orings in them that they compress with special tool.

never heard of anyone having a problem with the sharkbite stuff but I have never used them.

I would add, make sure to clean the pipe you are adding it to, I used Emory cloth to smooth the pipe and get any crud off.

We ran water to the new garage early this year and the contractor (he's not a plumber) and he used them. I've never seen them before and really grilled him on reliability. He said most if not all plumbers in the area use them. Then about a month later the main water line into the house developed a leak so we had to have a plumber fix it. He used SharkBites also and I grilled him. He said he he will not use them below ground, anywhere else he'll use them. He said he did a new home about a year ago and the guy had some sort of connection with the SharkBite company and he used them exclusively. I forget but it was upwards to like 125 of them of something like that and not one leaked... Dan

PS... I give them a quick feel to make sure they're no leaking almost every time I walk by...

We bring plumbers in on some of our remodel jobs. I haven't seen them break out a torch in several years.

If your water is hard they will only go about three years and then start leaking. Also, I have found that they will also develop drips if it is a high use faucet or whatever is connected to it. Our lab had them, and the results were not good in the high use areas. This leads me to believe the frequent pulsation caused by opening and closing a valve will wear the springs out on the fitting. With that being said, I put one on a toilet in my old house and it was still good after ten years when we sold the place.

I've used a ton of them. Zero issues as long as you make sure the cut is clean from the start

Same here. Not one single leak.

I've actually seen way more issues with mediocre soldering jobs not holding up than shark bites failing.

Good in a pinch but I really prefer Pex crimping tool and fittings

we had a leak in the main line coming in the house. they used a shark bite to fix it. 5 years later it leaked again and they didn't use them this time.
