Adjuster here for the Wild Fires. Already burned 299,565 acres and only 27% contained. Never realized it but there are only two million people living in the whole state.

Humidity here is 4-6% all the time. Friday night it will be thirty nine degrees.

Waiting for the fire to cross over the ridge!

I never want to see fires of any type but looking back I regret a bit not going to the wildcard firefighting side of things. I like it better.

Didn't that one start as a Forest Service prescribed burn?

You'd never think of a Civil War battle being fought in NM, but The Battle of Glorieta Pass was one of the post pivotal battles of the entire war.

New Mexico has closed all forests starting Thursday. Just about the time I like to break out the travel trailer and get up high out of the heat. Guess Ill stick to fishing, but a local lake has even been shut down so fire copters can use it for scooping up water and putting on flames. Woke up to ash on the cars this morning. No bueno here. Thought Cali earthquake would of rid of the first major liberal state, maybe this one will just burn down first.

It's not all fallen. Thousands upon thousand of acres of standing dead beetle kill. Not enough loggers or mills to handle it all.

I took this photo yesterday as I exited to a truckstop in Santa Rosa NM. I was hoping the pop up showers would help kill some of the fires. You can see smoke coming up between the two bands of rain

Barring the destruction of peoples property.
Fires are as natural, and necessary as rain..

Darn shame. Spent many a summer roaming the Pecos Wilderness area in my younger days when I lived in Lubbock. When New Coke came out, the general store in Tererro had three cases of original Coke tucked away. I bought all three for the highway robbery price of $1 a can.

This from out place in Eagle Nest. With south wind we get it bad. Fire currently less than 10 miles south of Angel Fire. The state will not let there money pit burn, they have brought in thousands of reinforcements to protect AF. Angel Fire has been in the set status for about a week.

Yep. Huey owned the General Store and stables. He would always laugh at the "flatlanders" who brought their horses and mules and ride off into the sunset. Said they needed at least 7 days to acclimate to the higher elevation. He ran a heck of a elk hunting outfitting business. It was on my bucket list, but I could never seem to save enough cash. It's been 20 years since I was last there.
