I am a bit conflicted on this whole dealer “market adjustment” thing that is being used by many new car dealers. I am not desperate for a new car so I will not pay over MSRP for any car, but going forward, I have a question. When this all settles out and we get back to a more normal time, will you remember those dealers that marked up MSRP and use dealers who did not. The dealer I have used in the past is marking them up with a “market adjustment” and I will have a hard time going back to him.
Am I being unreasonable or is it time to move on to other dealers?

Unfortunately, most are doing it. The one with the lowest will most likely get my future business. The ones doing 10-20K over msrp definitely will not.

When you sell or trade a car down the road do you think that the market adjustment will be taken into consideration. I think not. I doubt the Blue Book values will reflect the adjustments. You are immediately in the hole on your adjusted car.

I like your optimism "when we return to more normal times", but in reality , normal times are gone forever.

I bought my son a new car 2 months ago. Market adjustment was listed on invoice and I told them that I would not pay for that along with a few other add-ons. They said fine without any hassle and I bought for sticker price. I hated that but it is now the world we live in. Most dealers will just scratch it off the invoice if you ask them to do so.

I have a truck ordered thru Moritz (I think, haven't heard from them without me making first contact) for the very reason they don't have the adjustment scam going on. Moritz is 6 hours from me. None of my local dealerships have window sticker pricing and you can bet I'll never forget that!
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

We’ve recently ordered the wife a new SUV and went through the same thing. I absolutely will remember who was and wasn’t ripping people off. See my list below.
Doesn’t rip people off 1. Moritz 2. Vernon Auto Group 3. Sewell 4. Classic
Rips people off 1. James Wood GMC 2. Vanguard GMC 3. Heritage GMC 4. Hiley GMC

We have a Toyota on order. I’m concerned about it coming in how we ordered it, and also (slightly less so) worried about something like this popping up on the invoice. The order sheet has MSRP on it, but if it comes in wrong or they play hardball with a market adjustment fee, it will be tough to walk away, as we would have waited six months and my wife needs a new vehicle. The dealership will have no problem selling what we ordered very quickly.

you can hold a grudge if you want to and that's your right, but when it's time to buy again if they have the lowest price are you going to pay more for "payback"?

I ordered a new truck a few months ago (of course been sitting in Mexico done for a month now), but FWIW my experience was:
MSRP: - McKinney Buick GMC - Parkway Buick GMC
Non-MSRP -Vanguard Buick GMC - Ewing Buick GMC
May have changed since then

Moritz has had my business a long time. The way they have conducted their sales during these times will make me continue to but from them.

I see a future where new vehicle dealer lots are gone. You will simply order direct from factory and it will be delivered to you. I like to test drive several models/makes before buying so would hate that idea, but I can see it happening in the near future. The only "car lots" will be for used cars. Which was a pretty good movie....
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

We bought a new vehicle in February, the dealer market adjustment was on the sticker but they waved it ($3k) because it was the 5th vehicle we had bought from them. We wouldn’t have bought the car if they hadn’t waived the fee
