So if I throw out some chum (soured hen scratch) in 25-30 feet of water will it settle down below the boat
or may it drift off a ways before it sinks that deep? I'm sure there has to be some current in the lake so just wondering
if I'm actually chumming a spot 15 feet or more from where I'm fishing? Not sure it really matters because I'm not sure I can do anything about it but was just curious.

Bigger lakes will have current , unless there has been no wind for a prolonged period.
Current often is in the opposite direction of the wind.
You should be able to get a sense of the current by watching the grain sink. ( if your boat is stationary )
