Dobyn's Fury 705CB or Shimano Curado 6'10" Medium Rod for Poppers? #14368379 05/15/22 05:43 PM

Hey guys,

I've got a Dobyn's Fury 705CB with 10 lb mono that I use for all my cranking right now as well as my Rio Rico's (popper). However, I just bought a Shimano Curado 6'10" Medium Rod for jerkbaits (Vision 110, 110 JR, +1s). I plan to string up 10 lb mono on this rod as well.

Would the Shimano Curado be the better rod for these small Rio Rico's and smaller top water baits in general?

Thanks!

The faster tip on the Curado rod helps get the best action out of the jerkbait, but it is not as ideal for treble hook baits as a more moderate/mod-fast rod.

I personally use the 705CB for treble baits that don't need a particular action rod to work well.

I was more so asking if the Curado would be good for top water poppers. I already know it’s a great jerk bait rod.

Pretty sure the Curado rod he’s referring to is made for treble hooked jerkbaits. I’m sure that rod would work fine for small poppers.

Sounded like you were asking which one would be better.

Will it be "good" for poppers? Absolutely
Will it be better than a 705CB for poppers? I don't think so.

Ahh I see what your saying. Yea I’ll just keep using the 705CB for poppers. That works just fine for me

I have both those rods. Both are good choices for poppers but I use the curado 6'10" medium for all my topwaters. It's a good rod for working a walking bait and popper or a jerkbait. I just try to not set the hook too early or too hard so I don't rip the bait out of the fish's mouth before it gets it.
