What do y'all use? This stuff is a little more expensive than the average mix but makes really great margaritas. Product testing right now. www.powellandmahoney.com/product/classic-margarita

All margarita mixes are terrible, and will give you a big headache. Basically it is fake lime juice and sweetener. Instead, use fresh squeezed limes and 100% Blue Agave Sweetener (you can get in any grocery store). My recipe, I have posted this before...A lime squeezer makes it easy. I squeeze the limes first, use that as 1 part, then add the rest of the ingredients..

I'' use one pack of pink or yellow type sweetener. Then after the first one or two, I'll forget all the other ingredients but the Tequila over ice. Good stuff.

I think technically, the sweetener is optional. I remember as a kid in Mexico, my parents ordered a margarita, and I watched the bartender make it, he just poured Tequila over ice and squeezed a lime in it.

Herradura and Gran Gala over here. I don't like granular sugar because the drinks always has some grit. Used to use Sauza Commerativo but...they don't make it any more. Inexpensive and it tasted good......

Not trying to highjack, but I prefer the bloody mary cocktail more these days. (less sugar)
What mix do TFFers like best for those?

I have a question on this, I enjoy margarita from time to time but I have never had one made with wine that was any good- Is this like “a pretty good margarita for being made with wine” or does it taste close to the traditional kind made with liquor?

I have found that I like the mixes that use real lime juice. Real sugar or agave nectar is also better for sweetener, but the real lime juice is key. You can usually tell on the shelf when they are separated and there are solid particles at the bottom of the bottle.
Simple recipe for a perfect margarita: 1 part - good tequila (think $30 bottle) 1 part - triple sec (or orange liqueur) 2 parts - margarita mix
Shake vigorously with ice, strain and pour over fresh ice.
Addendum: I hate hate hate the "skinny" or sugar-free versions of margarita mix. They have a horrible after taste even worse than diet soft drinks, and not even tequila can cover it up.
