Anybody ever use a remote control bait boat to get your bait father out in the surf? Some of them even have built in sonar. It’s a great idea if they work. We’re headed to port aransas the first weekend in June and I’m thinking about ordering one.

I have indeed! IMO....the one I bought has worked very well to get weight and bait up to 5# out. It also has a GPS function to save up to four locations for autonomous bait delivery and boat retrieve.

The drones I found are 2-3k. The boats are 3-800 bucks and have a built in fish finder….

What brand and model is your boat?

This makes a LOT of sense.

Makes the surf fishing safer and more accessible to many.

I was actually looking to purchase the exact same boat to try out, they have 2 different model, 1 with build-in fish finder and the other without. Currently they don't have stock on fish finder model so I may just get the standard one. Still checking to see if anyone here have good/bad experience with it before I place my order

If you are fishing the surf, I'm wondering what the benefit of a fish finder would be. Most fish you catch are cruising a depth change like a sandbar. The RC boat is primarily for running bait out. You are not really using it to locate fish. A fish finder seems like an unnecessary gadget that would bump up the price, but not really offer much in the way of actual use.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Fish finder would be useless on that and i would not waste my money on it. Just my honest opinion. Cheap China web site . Very easy to spot that.

I spoke to a senior game warden about using drones for fishing. I was told they can be used to drop bait but cannot be used to locate fish then go catch those fish. The latter method is considered illegal means and methods (even though there is not yet clear language in the law books regarding this). That said I wonder if using a remote control boat with fish finding capabilities would fall in the same illegal means and methods category? Definitely a gray area but I can see a game warden wanting to get out in front of some of this newer methods that can be considered unfair chase.

Part of the problem with calling sonar units fish finders is that some people take that literally. Depending on your location and target species, sonar may be a great help when running baits out past the surf. Many fish are structure oriented, and the ability to drop one’s bait at a channel, gut, dropoff, hole, wreck, or something similar could be very beneficial.

How do you get a RC boat over 5 & 6 foot rollers at 3 seconds past the 3rd bar without that thing getting tossed?
