Wondering if there is an approved list of plant species that and individual can purchase, relocate, divide or plant. Is it even legal to plant a native species at the lake? These grasses/plants would be extremely beneficial the massive erosion going on as well as revitalize the ecosystem along the shorelines depleted from what I suspect is from all the spraying over the years.

There are floating, submerged and emergent plants that need to be reintroduced to the lake at multiple depths. These range from pencil reeds, cattails, bladderwort, egeria, contrail, hornwort, water milfoil, various pondweeds, eelgrass, pickerel weed, bulrush, arrowhead, bulltounge, pennywort, waterwillow, primrose, smartweed, lizard tail, maiden cane, types of hay grass. I’m sure their list is much more comprehensive than mine.

For several varieties theses plants/ seeds/bulbs need to be planted in the exposed areas that will be covered again at some point in 4-6 ft range, and those can only effectively be planted in great numbers at this low water time. Many will stay dormant until the water returns.

The average citizen may be able and/or willing to foot the bill for the plants and provide the labor as well, in a great variety of areas on the lake when done on an individual basis. I suspect getting funds from the state for that massive reclamation project are likely unattainable however they could set up something the community could do to help, but I wouldn’t be opposed to them subsidizing the plant/seed costs if the they felt the urge.

TPWD and the could easily set up an approved vendor(s) and list of acceptable vegetation. They already have a list of approved native plants I'm certain. As a local community, take advantage of the low water and revitalize individual areas, stabilize the eroding shorelines, and improving lake habitat at the same time. This would require very little or no actual cost to the state other than setting up basic guidelines and source of purchase.

I know it’s a long shot, but many years and years of spraying herbicide has killed all but a remaining few plant varieties, and you can clearly see the amount of shoreline erosion as a result. (It’s massive).

The water is low and now is the time. I’m sure there are some individuals that would gladly help the resource if there was an avenue provided. Certainly the overseers of the lake and water quality could develop basic plan of action to help combat the the sparseness in variety and density of vegetation you now(don’t)see due to the expansive effort to control what I understand was primarily the salvania over many years...

Even if it were only 1 out of 150 willing to buy $20 of plants/seeds and 20 minutes of their time, I’m sure the plantings would be numerous.

Just something to chew on.

There are things that can be done. I'm drawing a blank for his name but the guy from TPWD that did the videos with Ken Smith is who you can reach out too for a little guidance.

The Lake Fork Sportsman's Assoc has been working with TPWD, Jake Norman and his predecessors, growing and planting approved grasses and bushes in Lake Fork over ten years.

We have an agreement with the Ag class at Yantis HS to grow grasses and bushes in the greenhouse we provided for them. We have just been approved for a grant to do the same thing with both Rains and Winnsboro HS's. Once the plants are grown the kids then are taken out into the lake to plant them in areas where TPWD decides where they must go.

Many of you who fish the local tournaments come in contact with us both thru our live release boat and members selling raffle tickets that support these programs all for the benefit of Lake Fork.

In addition to those activities, we are also working on seed generators that will be floating out on the water dispersing seeds in different areas.

Tomorrow night we are having an open meeting at the SRA park south of the 154 bridge. Prospected members are welcome. 5 PM

So, why did I add about the meeting? Most of our members are 70+ and have been doing this for years. Some new, younger folks are sorely needed to keep up this important work.

I thought it was Todd Driscoll. Probably a moot point if we are about to have a summer like 1980 or 2011.

Driscoll was the bass tracking survey.

I doubt we'll be in that bad of shape. It will probably be an average number (or slightly more) 100 degree days with a couple of records set...

I found info about this a while back, this isn't what I originally found but it's tied to it. I couldn't get it to come through as a clickable link. Sorry

Not interested in starting or joining a planting club. Just want to know what is legal to plant on my own time and dime if anything. You can all enjoy it, even the duck hunters who rape the lake and never give back and even the guys whose lake front currently likely looks like their residence in the city. Haha.

This stuff in the attachments below is strong and hearty and holds soil very well, and to get it going takes very little time and energy right now and grows from 1 foot to about 4-6 ft of water...it’s growing all over ray Hubbard, What is it and is it acceptable?

The pictures look like Maidencane (native) but the flowers are wrong. It may not be an aquatic per se...
