So I posted this on another thread, but we used live bluegill that we bought from a bait store a couple weeks ago at Whitney and could not get any Striper to touch them. I could see them on the livescope and drop them right above, strap it would come right up to them and swim away. I have a buddy who grew up on Buchannan and he says they used to use the biggest shiners they could get and caught lots of Striper on them. Anybody have success using big shiners at Whitney? I had noticed some of the bait shops around Whitney carry some big ones. Is this any more successful than using bluegill? I’m just not sure I’m committed enough to build a big bait tank for a shad and figure out how to catch them. Like to throw artificial when they’re working. I had awesome run on top waters back in mid April but could not get them to hit plastic or top water very well the last two times out. My 13-year-old son is assuring me we have to figure out how to catch them on bait this summer. I’m telling him we just need to go crappie fishing lol!

Throw a cast net up in the creeks or coves early in the morning. Look for them flipping on top. Hard to find bait at Whitney

whitney is tough to catch bait because the water is usually so clear the bait can see your net coming. and if you find some murky water to cast in it seems there will be some old timber below to retain your net.
