I fish Joe Pool. There are some massive brush piles that were created when the lake was created and they are all over the lake. They were piles of large trees that may have been burned first, but they are very dense piles of trees. I have caught some fish using shallow running crank baits fished over the top of a couple of them but I don't think that is the best thing to use. My question is what is the best way to fish those piles without getting hung up? I have tried jigs, shakey heads, CRig, but I get hungup invariably. I'm not a big Texas rig fan but will that do better in those dense trees?

I’ve always been told t-rig pegged worm in brush piles. C-rig in rocks.

TX rig with the weight pegged is the most snag free.

If you want to substitute something for a jig there is nothing better than this with your favorite plastic trailer. Use the 1/2 oz model and peg it with rubber bobber stops. It is MUCH more snag resistant than any jig.

I have some dense brush piles I fish on a local lake and a swimbait rigged weedless or jerkbaIt and both work great. The piles are in about 16 feet of water and about 6 feet of water over the top of the piles. Hope that helps.

10" worm with the lightest weight you can use. possibly even a split shot about 6" above the worm if wind permits.

These work great for punching through cedar brush not that there's any around here.

Try a gray/white Slug Go with a piece of a roofing nail pushed inside the front body.

Don't use the green pumpkin model. It doesn't work at Ivie!

My experiences at JP have led to my permanent c rig setup. 80lb braid to a 1ounce tungsten weight and a tungsten clacker to protect the knot tied to a SPro 100lb swivel. Then a 17lb leader and a 3/0 hook. I usually only lose the hook if it snags, saving a $6 weight The Houdini color works great there.

That explains why I couldn't catch water if I fell out the boat.

Drop shot, use one of those crimp weights at the bottom. If you get snagged by the weight just pull it off. I use this in chunk rock on dams.
