Does the oil in plastic baits such as Berkley PowerLizards and Zoom Salty Super Tubes dissolve, melt or make a mess of Sterilite plastic containers? I am asking before I ruin some of my wife’s extra Sterilite storage drawers. I am looking at long term storage in the house. Thanks in advance.

Not if you keep them in the original retail bags. They’ll be fine. I think I’ve only had issues with elaztech stuff melting themselves to polypropylene containers.

Some of the original bags are covered in oil and others have some residue on them. I have cleaned them up before but something is leaking. The bags are currently stored in cardboard shoe boxes in an Armoir but I am losing the Armoir due to circumstances beyond my control. I thought if I am losing the Armoir, I can request the stackable Sterilite drawers and space in the office. I don’t want to go this route if my plastic baits are going make a mess of the Sterilite drawers. I plan on keeping the Z-Man elaztech baits in a separate drawer. So do normal plastic baits make a mess of Sterilite plastic containers and drawers? I would test it this weekend but I need the long term answer.

I have two big tubs full of all kinds of mixed plastics and I don’t see any issue. They have been in service for holding seasonal plastics for about 5 years now.

It doesn't affect them. If it gets too bad, throw them in the dish washer!

yes. most of my plastics have oily [censored] all over them now. Partially my fault cuz i did put some JJs clear in a few different packs. The googan stuff seems real oily too. Zooms not to bad. Zman is trash for long term storage...but doesnt release oily stuff from my experience. xzone isnt bad either. most companys arent that bad...but the ones like googan that are a little slicker looking cuz of the scent....im not as big a fan of. But....i do think the leaking is a lot of user error. Basically leaving a bag flipped upside down and the oils finding their way out slowly but surely. I think if you keep them upright youll be alright. but if you just toss them in a storage locker without a care and let it sit a few days/weeks....that liquid will find its way out. at least thats what happened to me

I have a really old 100 count bag of Berkley PowerLizards and the oil is everywhere. I guess I will double bag it and hope for the best.

I store a lot of my newer soft plastics in their original packaging in tubs I by @ Dollar General that are about the size of a shoe box. I think I give $2 a piece for them. I buy a lot of Strike King soft plastics and they look as if they are made to be kept separate from one another because of the way they are packaged so I keep them in the original packages.

Seems The Z man should have an expiration date on them. About 4 years and they lose form. At least my experience with them, but the rest should be good. The sterilites degrade over time anyway. Even indoors.

I save every used and empty bag. If one is leaking, the baits get another bag. Key is make suer none are laying down on their side. I like the Oil and it keeps the baits good twice as long. Keep a good spray bottle of degreaser to clean a box if a bag leaks and change out the bag, if oil is on the outside. Lay the bags out on a couple of old towels and get it done. Nothing is perfect or fool proof. My work benches looks like I have been deep frying turkeys out there.

I have kept mine in those containers for decades. The oil leaks from the bags and I have puddles in some of my containers. They have never melted though. Some will warp a little but I have had Plano 3700 boxes do the same thing.

Same for me, no issues with oily soft plastics in Sterilite containers. I have 9 of them in the boat all the time with soft plastics in them. With them in the house they won't even get as warm as mine do in the boat.
