barge building facility on Tenn. river just above Paducah,Ky....out of curiosity, I looked up what those barges cost and it appears this type costs between $250.000-300,000.00

Could build a house on one of those things and float down the river in your own 2 story house boat with a view.

this will give you an idea of how big these barges are.....and when there is 35-45 of them being pushed down the river by a towboat,it looks like a battleship is coming toward you....and if they are coming downriver,they are like a train,they can't stop quickly so you never want to get in front of one....

Barges are big old flatbottoms. I had a friend that was a tankerman in an oil barge running a regular route up Johnsons Bayou off Sabine Lake and had the bow watch position usually. He carried a .30-.30 and would shoot them marsh pigs and deer when rounding the bayou bends.
