What Would (Catfish) Tim Do?
We found ourselves asking that question all day long... My buddy Geno, Skeetmaster, had called me up and asked if I wanted to join him on his fancy schmancy bass boat to go fishing for cat's on his local lake, Lake Grapevine. Is the earth round?? Hell yes!! So the plan was concocted and weather in theory was going to be much mo better - 10-15mph winds and up to 74F. We both show at the lake and it's a misty drizzle, 54F and a blustery 20mph wind. F&^%$!! So much for the forecast, but at least the ramp is sheltered. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-Mnpbctp/0/cbe3c71c/X3/BA921029-8E80-4AF8-83BB-4961D1735518-X3.jpg) We head out too get bait. Easy peasy right? Nope. We struggled, one or two pesky shad every other cast. Then we ask the question we would ask all day. What would Tim do? ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-G43FXfs/0/02941011/X3/95D7A50F-C18E-4858-B94A-693356907A21-X3.jpg) We wanted to go for bigger fish. The water had been rising and more rain last night, so we headed to the main feeder creek at the north end of the lake, and would head up the river and tie to a tree. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-fNRDf5T/0/fa252a62/X3/A7DDF3A8-C63F-4908-BDD1-F0F6A42BA2B1-X3.jpg) (short video) https://maddbrit.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-SvTfNVc/AWe find a suitable spot on a bend and we spot some decent fish and tie up to a tree. (to be continued)

The bite was slow but we eventually hit on fish. Mainly smaller dinks but some reasonable fish. We are anchored up and just soaking baits in fairly shallow water. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-pHcW27q/0/0be9f6b4/X3/3C1060EA-3753-4F9A-994A-164AF2A836EB-X3.jpg) We try some runs in the current, letting our rigs sweep in as the current pulls the bait into slacker water. Some bites but mostly dink taps. We caught about a dozen smaller eaters but we fought hard for every bite. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-H9kz3GN/0/cea496a6/X3/3883F489-4A2D-440A-9B0D-43402269FB13-X3.jpg) We could spot decent sized fish but couldn't get them to bite. To note, the temperature stayed in the upper fifties and never got above 60F all day. We also tried pulling baits at o.4mph using a large wind sock. Nothing but smaller dinks. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-BxTMLNb/0/ec4730fc/X3/CA8F98E2-492D-49AA-8F0E-2970DB962890-X3.jpg) Despite the lack of bigger fish we still had a blast. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-XTd5m6W/0/c10724d6/X3/FB3623CB-C0ED-44E5-AF0E-B4E05FD52D87-X3.jpg) (short video) https://maddbrit.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-s6mH2Ts/AWe got our best fish and bites hard up against the bank in less than 2 feet of water, and lost two good sized fish. Despite the slow bite, another good day having fun fishing for cats. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-tXt28dh/0/b30e97ee/X3/023A1AAD-B6DB-428E-8658-5F7A8C8A140B-X3.jpg) fin! ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fishing/Fishing-Trips/i-q2wQKBF/0/c45f3c9f/X3/B5A18F4C-701F-487E-99A0-8572B9C89F38-X3.jpg)

The outtakes. Did you hear the one about the guy who parked up his buddies fancy truck and trailer, and was told " don't worry, I can lock the truck remotely from the boat:", only for the guy to leave the engine running in the truck, ALL DAY LONG? That truck was ticking over for nine hours solid.

Geno was very good about it, but I knew he was thinking 'dumb@ss'. I gotta believe that shy bite was due to the cold that day. It never got above 60F and we didn't see any top action at all. Nothing.

OK, enjoyed the write up and the pictures...
As I went over this closely, this is what I saw...
Morning started out ok, like normal launching the boat... Progressed to a cold beer up by the front... Smiles getting larger on faces... Clothes coming off... Empty beer box of tall boys... Less clothes. Bigger smiles... And they caught a few fish!
Some of us poor smucks stuck at work (on conference calls) and limited to looking at TFF!
Enjoyed it guys!

Ken, you might consider doing some private eye work when you retire!

He missed the part when we bought on the dancing girls Geno, so he is going to have to sharpen up his act to get any private eye business!

Sam Bass point for the throw net? Aerators not running near the dam for bait?
