Just tell her to visit Farmers Branch as a starter course to Mexican travel. That should change her mind and save her some money

My daughter just announced to me her and her friend are going to Mexico City around mid May.
I sat around and stewed for awhile and then called her and ranted about the following:
It is Mexico, They have rampant petty crime, serious crime, kidnapping just to name a few, She will be about 3 months PG, They have food, insect, and water borne diseases we don’t even think about, The police are corrupt, Her husband doesn’t want to go and isn’t, If you go to the hospital for any reason you are held until a very large bill is paid, and I was just warming up.
Her planning consists of we are staying at the Hilton, we will only use hotel coordinated transport, they are only going to do daytime stuff at museums etc She does not know if her work insurance will cover her. Not to mention air ambulance.
Am I being an old or is Mexico City a great adventure and a truly great place to visit for thousands of tourists.
I have a real case against me Mexico in general due to what happened to a friend there about 50 years ago.
Would you be on board with your your loved ones going to Mexico on a girls trip?
Is she pretty? Give her your best Liam Neeson impersonation…..joking aside I wouldn’t want her to go but she is an adult.

well all you can do is tell her most big cities in the world are the same some areas good some bad. The biggest reason I wouldn't want my young daughter going is in the last few years you hear of white people down there getting killed and worst. The trip may go on without a hitch but you will have a lifetime to regret it if it goes bad. I will say a prayer for you and your family.

I thought about riding Amtrak there. Probably see a bunch of deer blinds on the ride down…maybe even some deer.

When was the last time you were in Mexico or Central America?
went to central america about 15 times, costa rica, nicaragua, panama, was going to go to belize and look at property in 93 or so and backed out due to the crime rate. been a couple hundred miles into mexico 4-5 times back when you could do that and I lived in comfort, never had the urge to go to mexico city due to size, crime and nothing there that I had any interest in. traveled europe to the countries the navy would let me go to but always with a couple of buds, all of italy, swiss alps to ski once, germany for oktoberfest, flew to rota spain and spent 3 days there on liberty, almost made it to england but the mac flight got canceled. last trip was to costa rica in 08 as I had already booked and paid for it, blew out the knee in dec of 07 so that was my last trip. So I reread your post and you didn’t answer his question about the Mexico part at all. It sounds like you are sitting here giving strong advice to someone based on nothing but having read a bunch of Internet stories. I remember you being stuck in a trailer park in an RV up n Oklahoma on some hard luck situation back in about 2007 - 2010 or so.

I looked at several lists of most dangerous cities in the world. Mexico by far was the most mentioned on these lists but Mexico city was not listed in the top 50 of any of them.
New Orleans is more dangerous than Mexico City as far as I could tell. As much as 5 times as dangerous.

In the USA for the most part, I can pack some heat to protect myself and family from n'er do well miscreants and thugs. In Mehico, I cannot. Matter of fact, you can get years of prison time for having a few 22 cartridges in your pocket. I think I would take my chances in the USA. I can do without experiencing the culture of 3rd world socialist dictatorship countries. But, have at it if that is your cup o' tea.

Just like I said - Hop, you didn’t answer the Mexico part of the question. You’re just giving advice based on stuff you read on the internet.
