Shallow water anchor pins just don't cut it on my home lake, looking to put a set of Talons on the back of the boat. Who would be the go-to folks on these? Hate to spend that kind of money, but double anchoring sucks. Rather spend money with a forum member/small business if possible.

David, I'm sure you've done some research here so what is your opinion on the difference between talons and power poles?

Hate to spend that kind of money, but double anchoring sucks. Rather spend money with a forum member/small business if possible. I have a set of king pins for my new boat. Mainly because Blue Cat Bob has convinced me to keep her away from the trees so it doesn't look like my old boat. I see a lot of guys who spend a lot of time fussing about what their boat looks like and I get that but I bought it to fish, and fish I will as hard and as often as I can while I can. It I get a scratch or ding, so be it. But I do think they will help keep it from getting too banged up too fast.

Am I missing something here? Are power poles the same thing as anchor pins?

Am I missing something here? Are power poles the same thing as anchor pins? Nah, Anchor pins are just straight fiberglass poles, that have a fixed mount, and you just stab them into the bottom. Power poles have a hydraulic pump, and an electric control. Talons are 100% electric. For me the Talons are a little more compact, and for extremely soft bottoms, which is what I've run into on my home lake, Minn Kota said they would be a better choice. 10 foot anchor pins in 4 foot of water, my boat pulled them right out of the mud. Talons may not work either, which is why I'm really debating whether or not to even get anything. But, like I said, double anchoring sucks.

![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2022/05/full-105650-138450-pp.jpg) I've owned both and they both have their place. Lakes by me have lots of submerged cedar. Power Poles go outward as they go down and in the cedar that means it can push you forward from where you wanted to be and the poles can get tangled up. Talons go straight in in and no issues. Downside to talons is more weight on the transom then poles.

If you get either, you will be happy that you did. I have PP Blades in 10'. Got them used at a heck of a price. I think we fish quite a few of the same lakes and I haven't had an issue yet of the 10's coming out, or an issue deploying them in timber (but I see how it could move you, just not sure that you can get longer talons vs. PP's, but you can also get Drift Paddles for PP's and not the talons. Just food for thought. as for where to get them new locally, I don't have an answer other then shopping used. Go with what Jackie said.
