Let’s talk frogging. When do you choose walking baits over popping? How do you decide on the colors? What time of year do you throw them? Are they good on woody/stumpy lakes that don’t have grass or pads?

Black or white. Popping unless it's too thick, then use walking. Can toss around any cover, doesn't have to be vegetation. Spawn until late fall.

I got this spro from the kids for Christmas. Probably because they thought It was pretty lol. It’s the only frog I have right now but will get more. This one has a cupped front but not really as big as most popping ones. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2022/05/full-52243-137841-6e19ee24_a960_4a14_860f_3c4011549162.jpeg)

Buzz frogs are good too. Never spent much time with popping frogs, but I like walking and buzz frogs. Usually stick with white for both styles.

Threw one today. Started at 10am. Fished till 12. Caught nine on a frog. Wind doesn’t matter. It was B L O WI N G!!! Water temps need to be 74 before I try. It was74.5. They couldnt lay off of it. I only throw one frog. And one color of it. I keep about 20 of them in a box. They don’t last long when they are eating em. Strike King sexy frog. Green pumpkin/pearl belly. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2022/05/full-93588-137844-92a0dd8e_d7d4_49f9_8706_400eeff17545.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2022/05/full-93588-137845-dc321ed2_1a7b_4ab5_b9f3_7a86063c6942.jpeg) Had fun. I only took pictures of the first four fish. I was sending them to my buddies that love throwing frogs and they were at work, while I was taking the day off today. Haha.

The one I have is the spro Bronzeye spit Shad. I like Spro for good consistent performance. I have both regular and popping. My rule of thumb is dark conditions dark bait and lighter then lighter baits. I like natural colors.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

I like a popping frog in more sparse cover or open water. The walking frog in grass, pads and heavier cover. I don't throw black near as much as others do. I prefer a shad/baitfish type color most of the time. Frogs work well on rocky points, along rip rap, in timber and under docks as well. Don't just use them around cover. Great dock skipping bait.
