Tried to get the buzzbait bite going early but nothing doing. FIshed grass, stumps, pockets, points, rip rap everything we could think of. Chatterbaits, senkos, flipping, cranks. Only caught one keeper all day. Man what lake are all those guys that weighed 20 pounds on? Very frustrating. We had a great practice last week. Dont know what happened. How did you guys do?

They know where the brush piles are at. That’s the difference.

I don't think so. Brushpiles are still a little early IMO. Wrong baits and wrong areas and poor timing is my guess Champion1. Poor execution on my part cost us today.
Corp brushpiles on Roberts are published and there's so much wood out there anyway.
I would bet the winners found a set of trees/stumps that fish were spawning on, that's my best guess.
I doubt the bushes were in enough water to get it done and I doubt a frog bite was on
Maybe a shad spawn got it done early.

I saw lots of fish on beds and lots of empty beds. My guess they snatched lots of good fish off beds threw them in a livewell all day. Bagged em weighed re bagged and let loose 5 miles from where they were caught lol. Oh well

Like many, we had a really good practice but this is Ray Roberts so not surprising. Things change so fast out there and they definitely changed dynamically over the last 6 days. We dumped our 3 that weighed 7.70. We had our chances at a check (not a big one) but lost 4 fish almost at the boat. The lake and north wind really changed some things and we never saw the shad spawn that we did last weekend. Sand Branch looked like a Christmas Lights display about 6:10. I have no idea how the top 20 caught their fish because we didn't see a single fish caught all day and fished Sand, Indian, Buck and even some main lake stuff. The keepers we did get in the boat came on 3 different baits. I think we need to take up noodling. My arms are a little longer than the average fella so maybe we would have a little advantage.

We stunk it up and didn't even catch a limit. Had 4 for 15 pounds. Worst we have done in awhile. Just underestimated the amount of boats that would be on everything we planned on fishing. As if Basschamps doesn't have enough boats there was also a large club tourney going out of Jordan. Of the 25 spots I wanted to fish there was a boat on everyone of them.
I hate photobucket.

Friends that’s did well caught them exactly as some of you have mentioned above already. Ray Roberts is as much about location as anything. Some landed on em and some made the right adjustments. Hard to say if it was a bait adjustment or location adjustment but I lean to the latter of the two. Congrats to the guys that did well, we’ll figure out how to pull one of these off one of these days!

Oh well You’ll find most of those fish spawning in the marina this week… but if it really bothers you I’d suggest moving up north where “Bass Season” doesn’t start till after the spawn. The low numbers of bass per acre in Ray Roberts are directly related to the gar and sandbass populations in the lake. No other lake I fish has the numbers of 4’ crazy thick gar swimming around. They are eating good.

They are eating good. I'd love to go out spend a few weekends wiping out the gar and carp. Good grief they are bad. Odd thing is I haven't ran into any of the sandbass yet this year. I fished Friday and Sunday. You definitely have to land in a area that has a few fish. Otherwise, it takes covering a lot of water to put anything together.

Every bite we had was on a single mud point with wind blowing on it. Weighed 4 for 14 and jumped off two that were in the 4-5 pound range. Had a 2 pounder that we had to let go that seemed like it was going to die if we held on to it. Had the bites to do well just didn't execute.

I will say Hollingshead and his partner can catch them just about anywhere.
I was thinking they would win this one as well and double up on Ray Bob this year
Aweomes Job!
