Finally got around to modifying my aluminum welded design so anyone could build one with hand tools. Love these holders as they are light and don't eventually crack/bend like PVC. Hope it helps someone.

I made mine out of a car's leaf spring and added a metal canteen cup to hold some dead bait. The flex of the leaf spring allows the rod to bend with the spring and also allows a good hook set. I did this when I was living in N.Carolina on the coast. To assist in putting the spring in the ground, a metal cross piece was welded near the bottom end of the spring to step on. Instead of welding I'm sure one could drill holes for bolts.

Yeah, I like this design as its extremely lightweight...now it should work for anyone with a drill and a hacksaw.
