Learned on the old logging roads with my Dad around our cabin in the mountains. First on an old chevy with a 4 speed on the floor...round clutch and brake pedals. Then a 63 GMC with 3 on the tree and a v6. Fixed that truck up and drove it thru most of high school.

My grandparents taught me in a '74 El Camino on dirt roads in central Texas when I was 12, but that was only after I had been driving the old Ford 8N tractor for a while.

This exactly for me. My dad never said a word about how. All he said was ' go slow'. I guess he just expected me to know how from watching him. At 12 it was my younger brothers turn, as now i was expected to keep up with the men slinging those square bales.

Started at 8 on a tractor on the farm in 1969 then started driving my dads 69 Ford with 3 on the column. My dad was a race car driver among other things and would make me put that truck into skids and spins so that I could learn how to get out of them. Come to think of it he did the about same thing when I was learning how to fly his Cessna 172. Had to go through drivers ed at school in 1976.

Dad... sorta.

Boy! go get the mail. Boy, go to the barn and get feed. Boy! haul that burn barrel down to the dump pile.

He never was in there.

Ten years old.
Dad was traveling salesman. Was with him on a trip. Heading to El Paso. Made it to Big Spring, he said you wanna drive? Oh heck yeah.

Keep the hood ornament in the middle of the lane and don’t go over 80.
Here endeth the lesson. Got in the back seat and racked out.

Like a lot of these guys, hay fields. 66 Chevy pickup 3 on the tree. I was already riding motorcycles, so the concept of a clutch wasn’t foreign to me.

Wonder how many youngsters know what “Granny Gear” was back in the day. The parallel parking portion of the driving test was a whole lot harder with no power steering and/or Automatic! But we made it somehow!

This ^^^
Started with a go-cart when I was 5-6 and starting driving at about 10. Closest neighbor was probably 3-4 miles away. Dad would always carry a .22 in case we saw a a rabbit, squirrel or a moccasincoralcopperrattler.

My parents and Teacher in drivers ed. Took my test in an auto cutlass supreme. Drove stick shifts for 15 years. When I retire and buy a old hotrod....it will be manual transmission. Miss driving them

My Dad, first driving the tractor, B Farmall, then 1948 Ford. 4 door. I got my drivers license when I was 15. Dad had to go before the County Judge to get a permit for me to take the test for my license.
