You can track most air traffic here... https://flightaware.com/live/mapIt's kind of cool that I can hear some general aviation planes outside and track their flight path sitting here at the computer. I had been dating this girl who had gone to Vegas and was flying back home. I happened to know the flight info and was able to track it. I lived in Arlington at the time which at the time the downwind leg flew right over my house. Was able to go out and watch her particular flight cruising over head. I just thought, what a world we live in... that we have technology like this. Click on one of the moving aircraft and it gives detailed info about it.

I had been dating this girl who had gone to Vegas and was flying back home. When I was a young buck, I’d use that “dating a girl” terminology when talking to my relatives. My uncles always seemed to know exactly what I really meant…occasionally I’d get high fives.

In the daylight I can tell what they are. My thoughts headed from East Texas to the Houston Medical Center. Almost always on a NE to SW path.
I also get quite a bit of military helicopter traffic, I'm guessing from Fort Polk to Fort Hood or the SA area. Most of the time heading westerly. Definitely a different sound from civilian helos. Occassionally get the Jolly Green Giants (Chinooks). Jolly green (Ch-53 and variants) are not chinooks (ch-47). This is a jolly green carrying a chinook. Thanks for the clarification.

Interesting. In Nam we called the Sikorsky Skycrane ‘Jolly Green Giant’, but an online search found no confirmation on that. This old dog just learned something new.

Unless you have the live feed, the majority of all flight tracking applications are delayed 15 minutes for safety and security reasons. To get the live feed you either require an ADSB receiver and software or permissions from the FAA with subscription.
