October 2020 I did really well catching carp using home-made pack bait and method leads just outside the Mason Point Boat Ramp. (3 over 20lbs in 1/2 an hour)

Been skunked ever since, using the same bait and have tried a few other things. Any tips (locations, baits, etc) to having a successful carp trip this weekend to Choke?

We catch them with canned sweet corn fishing the bottom in front of the cabins at Calliham. Not a lot of snags either thumb

Thanks for the tip. I am thinking about a couple of days of fishing.

So from the shore? Wonder if I should launch and find a spot to tie off?

You are talking bout where the red arrow is, yes?

Catching carp from a boat is a very difficult proposition. Not impossible, but very difficult due to the stability and rocking of the boat. I strongly recommend bank fishing and chumming the area with the corn and range cubes. Use the boat to get the chum out into the area if you can't toss it out far enough by hand.

Yes that is the spot. That whole boat ramp cove is infested with carp. I would fish from the bank for carp for the same reason Curt0407 posted above.

Side note: my daughter holds the current choke canyon junior angler C&R carp record she caught from the bank using sweet canned corn

Honestly our trip is thanks to you.and Curt. I would have taken my boat and tried (prob in vain) at Mason point again. SO, thank you.

I would LOVE to catch a buffalo.

Incidentally, we kept 3 Carp and the catfish. To be honest, the carp tastes better than the cats.....ONLY knock on it are the "y" bones. I am putting it here, in writing, carp tastes good. White, flaky meat on par with anything. Y-bones are a PITA, but never let anyone tell you carp is a bloody meat like Jack Crevalle or has a strong "fishiy" taste is probably repeating stories and has never tried it for themselves. I would (and probably will) keep carp again for the purpose of eating.
