I have two Penn 9/0 that I have ready to reload with line. heading to Mustang Island in July to try to get a few sharks and wanted some opinions as to what I should reload with. Also, kind of curious to know what kind of fish a 9/0 could handle as part of the decision making process.
Thanks in advance y'all!

Those ought to handle any sharks you hook into down there, except maybe 1,000# tiger sharks.
I'd put on a 300 yard topshot of heavy mono (80#) for abrasion resistance from sandbars, then spool the rest underneath with 100# spectra. You be good for anything you're likely to hook into

I'd take one of these International 50's or 80's over a 9/0 Senator anyday

If it was me I’d load it with 100# hollow core and a topshot of 100# monofilament. That’ll handle any sharks you hook, and it’s easy to splice the topshot to the hollow core.

A 9/0 with 100# JB hollow core and a top shot (does not need to be more than 50yds as long as you have enough digger to keep tension on it) of 200lb mono. Knotless splice and you should have enough line to fight anything that swims the TX coast.

Well......this was caught down south this past weekend on an Ocean Epics charter. Aim for a lot smaller than this one and the 9/0 will be able to handle it.
