Apparently our house has increased $65,000 and the lot my shop pad on has increased $5500. Rest of our land has come up at least 30-40% in value as well despite not one single improvement made. We had about a $50,000 increase last year. We bought our place in July 2020. So in less than 2 years we have seen well over $120,000 increase on our home..... roflmao

They appraised ours $100k higher. Just sent in the protest paperwork. Hunt county are crooks! 33% increase in one year with nothing done to warrant a huge increase. No homestead due to it being a second house.

I think there will be a push to get away from property taxes to income taxes. Lots of families will be taxed out of their own home.

They've been saying that for 5 years.

Housing bubble really only bursts under 2 scenarios - if there is an outside factor (like mortgage securities fraud in 2007/2008), or if housing gets way, way more expensive than renting. As it is, rent has come up along with housing. We bought a rent house in 2019 hoping to rent it for about $950. We are about to rent it for $1300 - over 30% increase in that time. Not quite as much as housing, but not far behind. ETA - if we had listed it publicly, we could have been closer to $1500. We are at $1300 for a family friend.

Mortgage rates will put a halt to prices skyrocketing, and will probably bring them back down a bit (maybe 5-10 percent for sub-$1M homes). But there is no bubble to burst like 2008 right now.

Contact your local appraisal office.

Honestly, if there was ever a year to protest, this isn't it. Appraisers have more than enough sky-high comps available for nearly any valuation.

If you're going to protest, need to go in with property-specific condition issues (major foundation problems, plumbing problems, cosmetic issues, etc.). That will get you further than just saying "it can't go up 20%" the the market is going up 30%.

We are gonna protest ours as well.

Curious what you're going to use as your justification?

Gonna think on it a bit. We have a couple of things we can bring up.

Agree with this. You won't win on comp comparison.
