Like everyone else I am tired of the wind blowing a gale all the time. I was out on Lavon yesterday and she was rockin! I caught bait in the marina and that included a gasper geaux about 10 inches. Y'all know they make good catfish bait. Downside is you need a chainsaw to cut them up. I was cutting this one into pieces with my bait knife and sliced the tip of my left thumb about 70% off! I just cleaned the boat and now I got blood all over the floor! Well, tip for y'all, if you don't keep a first aid kit on the boat, get one. You never know when you might need it. We pushed on. Wyatt and I boated a couple nice channel cats from the marina cove but the action back there was slow so we headed out to brave the wind. I was pulling a 78" sock and the waves were breaking over the transom. I threw the head of that Gasper Geaux and hooked up a decent fish. 21 pounds. I told Wyatt that was enough to scratch my itch for the day so back to the marina and home. Another good day on Lady Lavon... [Linked Image]

In addition to a first aid kit a pill bottle full of coffee. Get fresh ground coffee right out of the can, when you put the coffee on a cut it stops the bleeding.
Old fisherman trick or tip.

OUCH!!!

Glad that cut wasn't worse, Tim. First aid kit? Nope, I had better get one on my boat.

I cannot believe you went out in that wind yesterday!

OMG

It would have been too much for me. But then again you are guy who called me up to go fishing when it was below freezing and blowing a gail. I remember thinking fishing, really? Best days fishing ever and so many fish my arms got worn out. Hah!

BCB, this wind is wearing us all out. Yesterday was a day of what I call very technical fishing. You really had to be alert and paying attention all the time. Not a relaxing day by any means. But it is a drug and I needed my fix!

Leave it to Tim to go out and catch a toad when everyone's catching eaters! I'm glad to see you out on the water. I know you've been itching to get out. I'll hopefully get a chance this week. My goal this spring and summer is figure out where the big ones like to hang out. I got a little spoiled this winter with them being bunched up in the deep. I've got a lot to learn still.

Tim, it's crazy how quickly those injuries happen and how you don't see them coming. I mean, we've all used a bait knife thousands of times but we still do it. Good job improvising with what you had and keeping at it!

I always keep this stuff in the boat. Not sure how it would work on a cut the size of Tim's, but definitely comes in handy.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach
