My damper has been closed for 10 years and counting. I thought that 1 time and was wrong. It had apparently been open a long time

We put a wood stove in the house we bought last year. Almost no heating bill after we put it in. Love that thing.

We put a wood stove in the house we bought last year. Almost no heating bill after we put it in. Love that thing. Smart man. Have a neighbor that has done that for 30 years despite his HVAC system.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

We put a wood stove in the house we bought last year. Almost no heating bill after we put it in. Love that thing. lot of difference between a wood stove and a fireplace. They are a fantastic source of heat.

We have a propane fireplace. Woke up yesterday morning and The Boss and her two cats had it turned on.
He is truly a sick individual.

Every fall, I go to start the first fire of the season and realize my damper has been open all summer. This year, for the first time I can remember, I closed it. I’m not the only one. Go right now and close the damper so you don’t use the ac to cool the yard. After starting a fire with the damper closed "one" time, we put a sign on the grate, "Damper Closed" to remind us that it is closed or to close it.

My parents had a racoon get in the house while they were wintering in Florida. It raised the cabinets and hid in the ash pit under the fireplace . Took a few weeks to figure out what was going on.

Chimney sweep, top screen and chimney cap.
