The month started out bad after a good March. Of course, windy weather has been a big factor. I finally got my 1st limit at East Dam Hump on Tuesday April 12. Then today Cliffshot, his friend Mark, and I went out from 8:30 AM and fished until we caught our target # of white bass 153. That was at 4:30 PM. The 2nd four hours were way more productive than the 1st four hours. We went north in the morning and did best at the north end of Spillway Hump. We caught a few more at the west and south ends of it and caught a few at the Rock Pile. We headed south with count at 42. We went back to where I caught them Tuesday - East Dam Hump - and caught a bunch there in 22 fow. The next best spot was Staubach Hump, where we ended up. We left still catching fish. We used only Mepps #4 Aglia spinners working them straight down on the bottom - jig a couple of times and lift with rod or reel it up. We kept 56 for the table. Saw Fatguy and Paul out enjoying this beautiful day.

I took 3 non-fisherman out of town guests out last Saturday (4/9) morning and it was a total bust. We only caught one fish. I marked fish in several locations but they just would not cooperate. Yesterday, 4/14, was a different story. I started fishing around 12:30. Hit Key Ranch north, Key Ranch drop off and long ridge. I had 5 at that point. Stopped by iron wall and didn't find anything. I then headed to spillway hump and found fish on several locations. I caught 28 SB and a 4 lb cat. I left them biting at 4:00. I was throwing a Mepps #4 using the retrieve and pause method. The depth I caught the fish in ranged from 13' to 19' with 13' - 15' being the best depth. Water temp was 66F to 68F.

4/16/2022: It was calm and overcast - maybe the fish are schooling??? So, I headed out at 8:30 AM and saw a small group of boats near the dam. When I got close I saw fish schooling over a large area, and interestingly there were no birds on them. By 11:30 I had caught 100 white bass and a 24 inch hybrid. The last hour, with fish occasionally surfacing near me, I spot-locked in 28 fow with fish down on the bottom. I tapped the boat to keep them under me and kept catching fish the whole hour- including the hybrid. I caught them all on a #4 silver Mepps spinner. But, all the other boats fishing the surfacing fish were also catching fish - most were using slabs. Among the boats were Billy Seaman and his customers, and Billy had them all catching fish.

The 24 inch hybrid:

Thanks for the report Dennis. If I could get my Helix to show an image like that, I might be able to catch more fish !!!

Dennis, looks like your sensitivity is really high. I’m sure there’s a really good reason. Can you explain?

I also have a Gen 2 Helix 9. Does your SI work? If so can we get together some time on the water and have you put my unit on your boat? I'm trying to determine if my non-working SI is due to the unit or my transducer.

Yes, I'm happy to help. I had to work on settings before my SI worked.

RoadRunner,

I'm a friend of Dennis'. If it turns out your Helix 9 needs a transducer and can use a HW SI Mega I have some extra ones. Make you a good deal on one.

Cliff,

My transducer model is XM 9 20 MSI T which is supposed to support SI. If the transducer is shot and you have a replacement, I'll get in touch. I have talked to Dennis a couple of times on the water and you might have been with him once. I fish out of a light blue Mako CC and I live in Key Ranch.

Rick

Coachzee: You are correct. It comes from the Bible. After the resurrection, Jesus met the disciples at the Sea of Galilee. The disciples were in their fishing boat and saw Jesus on the shore. They had not caught any fish and Jesus told them to cast their net on the right side of the boat. They did and caught a bunch of fish and counted them. The count was 153. Before I noticed this, my target was always 100. One point to draw from the story is don't forsake God for your occupation - Jesus outfished the professional fishermen. He needs to be 1st in all parts of your life.
