I have fished the Colorado arm of Lake LBJ since I was a kid and always had a great bit of luck catching the white bass run mid March or so. Unfortunately our family trip got pushed to 4/10-4/15 this year. Can anyone provide any guidance on what the fishing for whitebass will be like at this point in the spring? I have a canoes so I will be limited and want to stay in this portion of the lake.

Happy to switch up to targetting crappie or largemouth if this would provide better odds.

This has been a weird year. The day and night temps have been so sporadic, that coupled with no rain to speak of. The whites and crappie have not turned on yet. Even up the Llano arm where they generally turn on sooner the bite has been slow. They're there one day and gone the next but not really biting. Some crappie can be found in the river but I haven't found any in the shallows or up in the creeks yet. I'm hoping with the warmer day time temps and the night temps staying in the 50's and 60's things will get better.

Limited out on whites last Sunday night between 1000 pm and 0300 am under lights near the metropolis of Tow. Crappie had not "turned on" yet but since then have had two reports they have started becoming more active. A canoe around Cedar or Granite Point might yield better results. Water this past Monday morning was at 59 at 0600 am. Shad may start spawning by the time of your trip and that would change the whole dynamic for the better. If you can get a hold of some shad, a cast net is a plus, then drifting live/fresh dead shad anywhere from 20 to 10 feet might give you the possibility of some decent blues.

Make sure what you get are whites weeded through many juvenile stripers and hybrids last Sunday.

I know the area that you speak of it's on Buchanan Lake near Buchanan Lake Village. I've fished there for the last few years. I was told by a local at Hi Line Resort that the shad have been boiling in the mornings by the cabins. I know what ya mean about those little Stripers and the Hybrids too. One tongue patch in the center =Sand Bass two on either side of the tongue = the other two. I hear the the citation for undersized Striper and Hybrids is quite expensive.

I am 3 days in up here on the colorado arm - on Lake LBJ. Fishing has been very slow. Water is warm and stagnant due to no releases for quite sometime below the dam. Lots of algaue build up on the rcoks and floating in clumps. Have caught a few fish here and there but not a single whitebass. Water quality is very different than it has been the past few years - i am attributing that to the lack of flow below inks lake dam and being a few weeks later than i generally visit.

I did catch a couple of hybrids which is the first I have ever hooked into in this area after many years of fishing. For about 5 minutes - i thought i may be the new TX whitebass record holder - before i did some further investigation.

I am no expert bass fisherman but the bass fishing has been slow for me and everyone else i have spoken to.

All that to say I still love this section of the lake and all the memories it brings back.

The thunderstorms past us up yesterday so who knows when they'll spawn. No water moving is the problem I think. Glad you have good memories
