Just recently purchased a new home in an H.O.A. With that being said, I had to sell my 20ft cc because it would not fit in my garage. I am looking at fishing kayaks but have no idea were to start. Any suggestions would be helpful.

The kayak section of this forum would be a good place to start.

Here's a couple of threads to help. Leaving this one here because of the number of people getting into bass fishing from a kayak.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

You are going to want to try out several before buying.

Price, intended usage, budget and how you intended to transport it will be big factors. As well as your size. Smaller dudes can get away with smaller yaks. The larger ones can be tough to manage on your own if its more yak than you can physically handle. If your 5'7 and 140lbs a Hobie 14 would be tough to manage on your own esp if loading in a truck.

Those links JP posted have a lot more details... guys who know will all say the same thing, test several on the water and see what works for your situation. Unless your budget is on the lower end then they are basically kind of the same.

Check with Mariner Sails, they used to do a meet at White Rock lake and had many different kayaks there to try out. They are also very knowledgeable and several of them fish too. They also may still have the deal going that if you buy a yak from them you get a discount on purchases for a period of time....

I’ve owned

Ocean kayak trident 13 and 15
Hobie quest 13
Hobie revo 13
Hobie pro Angler 14
Viking
Wilderness tarpon 10
Hobie adventure (not adventure island)

My favorite by far was the adventure. 16 feet, sleek, super fast. Easily fishable in big waters (went 7 miles offshore in Florida a lot). Could carry anything I need for camping trips.

there is a guy on youtube , name is Greg Blanchard . He exclusively fishes the Kayak tourneys in Cali ---fishes all the big places with a tricked out Ascend kayak . Has a Torqeedo motor on it to get around and it 's got all the bells and whistles . . I think he qualified for the National tourney held on Possom Kingdom . His videos are mainly about catching em , but you can easily see how he rigged it and how it fishes .

Do some research and look around. As said above, it would be ideal to demo a few or hook up with some people that have them. Kinda depends on how you plan on using it. I started with a Jackson Cuda 12 and sold it after 6 months. Bought a Jackson Coosa HD and had it for almost 5 years. Mainly fished the Brazos River. Decided to start fishing lakes more, so now I’m in a BigRig HD. It’s big and super stable, but not easy to transport or carry. I have a trailer for it. Have a trolling motor on the back that helps with getting more range on the water. Countless ways to rig them up. Some are very basic, some people have them rigged with all the bells and whistles. I chose the BigRig for stability, but also liked some of the features. I’m 6’ and weigh around 235, and can stand and fish all day without worrying about flipping. I could stand in the Coosa, but it was way more shaky.

Greg is the best!! Love watching him. Small correction here though, he fishes the Native Titan 10.5 mostly then the Native Slayer Max 10 on smaller waters. Each is natives propel peddle drive yaks and he has each tricked out very nicely. He talks about this in his latest videos. Major price difference in the ascend kayaks to the Natives Greg runs.

Might want to check out Malone Trailers, they make a variety of configurations for what you might be hauling and have a retractable tongue kit that allows larger trailer to fit in garage.

Kayaks are getting really good. I saw a man fishing in a Yak on Marine Creek, he had more accessories on his boat than my bass boat. It was pretty amazing. I bet a kayak on a lithium would run like a torpedo..
