Howdy, I seek the wisdom of the crowd.

I have been hoodwinked into more or less leading a camping trip at Cedar Hill State Park with a bunch of newbies at the front of March. While I do not mind the camping and showing off most of the tricks you can find in a Boy Scout manual, they are somehow convinced that I can teach all of them how to fish. I am pretty sure that some of these folks are not exactly sure which end of a fishing rod to hold. Anyway, I have NEVER been to Cedar Hill, or have ever had a chance to fish Joe Pool. I am looking for advice on techniques and spots in the park to teach them. The kids are between 7~12 years-old. I am not expecting to put anyone on a PB, just some fun. I assume the Perch Pond and Duck Ponds in the park are catch and release and perfect to get them started. I am guessing those should be perfect for bobber, hook, and red wrigglers or even corn or something, for sunfish paradise, like the ponds in most of the DFW city parks. The more adventurous and ones who pick up the skills a little quicker, I think I am going to take them to one of the nearest docks in the park and have try their luck on Joe Pool. If they can get the casting down, I may get a few onto lobbing a weightless Senko, but that is a Big maybe, and when we hit Joe Pool from in the park. Would it be better to hook in some bottom rigs and use magic bait to try for catfish? I know that is more a bait and wait technique, but I am looking at options for the newbies.

Any suggestions or comments, beside beware of low flying random hooks being wildly cast? shocked

With the wacky weather over the last few weeks, I am surprised that anyone has caught anything. Thanks for responding. Hopefully by the week of Spring Break, the weather will settle and the fish in the area will start biting.

Joe Pool is about 2 fet low. The lake has to be full or overfull for the bank fishing to be any good.
The water needs to be warmer so the fish will come up shjallow
