Lately I’ve found myself using a 1/8-1/4 ounce weight and nothing more. Even offshore in 12-25ft I still use the 1/4, it seems I can feel more and get a higher number of bites with a higher hookup ratio. Unless windy conditions make me change to a 3/8 I primarily stick with the lighter lures even though it seems that the newer trends in fishing are heavier Texas rigs. What makes you decide to change your weight? I go off where I’m fishing and what time of year. Any opinions on this would be appreciated!

Wind and depth. Big TX rig is normally a 3/8 but over 15 feet or high winds I'll go 1/2. Flipping/Pitching I normally go 3/16 or 1/4

3/8 and 1/2 for me most of the time. And typically I've got a 3/4 tied onto either a C-Rig or big worm if I'm fishing deep structure, especially in the wind.

1/8 oz black tungsten weight is my bread and butter. I use it 90% of the time for all of my TR presentations. The only other weight I will throw is a 1/4 oz, which is very rare. I prefer the small and sleek size of the 1/8 oz based on my results.

I throw 1/4 about 95% of the time. 3/16 on beds. Drop-shot is 1/4 100% of the time. I like to keep it simple.

1/4 or 3/8 are pretty much my go to, 1/2 for deep water or wind and 1/8 if working them up shallow which is about 1/3 of where I throw one.

With Tungsten, my former partner turned my head on 3/16 oz. I was always a 1/4 oz guy. Now most of my weights are either 3/16 or 5/16 and which one I throw depends on how quick I want the bait to fall.

This is just my traditional tx rig setup, I have 2 weightless versions and a heavy flipping rig setup in my boat as well right now.

I though I was the only odd ball that threw 3/16 and 5/16 instead of 1/4 and 3/8

I do throw 1/16 & 1/8 when the pressure on the lake is high and wind allows it

Haydon, keep in mind that different bait profiles will cause different rates of fall with the same weight.
Some guys like a really slow fall to "tease" the fish into biting, some want it to fall fast to trigger a reaction bite. Both thoughts are right - depends on the day.

I mostly use 1/8 or 3/16. I have always operated on the idea of "use the lightest weight you can get away with for the conditions".

It took me a while to figure out the lightest I could go without missing too many because of breakoffs and missed hook sets. My goto rig is 12# test, 1/16 weight, and #1 hook. Sometimes I will go to 1/8 if fishing in over 8 feet.
