Anyone had a remanufactured engine installed lately?
Was thinking about a jasper engine for the f 150 2006 .
Are these good engines? The 5.4 3 valve is pricey about 6000. Plus install.
Just considering it because truck prices are insane and I refuse to pay up for a new one at this time.
Am I crazy for doing this?

Have you got a quote from your dealer? $6,000 sounds like a lot to me without doing research.

after reading what they do I would say 6k is not bad for a full long block.

crate engine like that is the best way to go imo.

I have a coyote in my 14 f150 and plan on replacing it and the transmission when needed, can't afford a payment so just gonna replace stuff as needed.

coyotes start at 8k.

I have a really clean lariat f 150 already had trans rebuilt, front end,new struts and shocks and a/c last year.
Engine is still running good but 290000 I know it will need a new engine at some point.
I work in auto industry these trucks ain’t worth the crazy money their getting. I’m retiring this year and don’t want a truck payment.

I am on fixed income/semi retired and same for me, no payment. I have done all the service and all oil changes are at the dealer but with 140,000 on it doubt I could get what I would have to have for trade value with all the extras on it. had to have front suspension completely redone, upper and lower a arms etc. but was under extended warranty (whew!) and a bad head temp sensor under warranty as well. so far been the best truck I have ever owned so keeping it won't bother me.

Nothing wrong getting an engine from Jasper! I've installed probably 40-50 engines from them and have only had 3 with an issue! Those 3 valve engines are not cheap!

cheers Was reading ya'lls post. Hop& basscaster. iam guessing your trucks are 3v engines/ maybe not the coyote. I have a 2002 150 4wd. bought new. it has had rebuilt tranny at 270k. Stll working good. The engine has 343ooo. miles. Yep ya read it right.5.4l 2vmotor. oil change every 4k mi.. Only been pulling boat last 5 yrs. Yes its using some oil but. still pretty strong. Wel imo the 3v motors are junk. I hoping for 360k. the a crate engine. Yep i agree truck prices are nuts

Yeah I agree my motor is using or leaking a little oil but still runs fine at 290000 .
It still cleans up nice . I pulled travel trailer for a while and bass boats but really not a lot of trouble.
Never left me walking yet . Truck prices are stupid.
Yes it’s a 3. valve 5.4

Do NOT get a jasper engine. You can get a genuine ford motor from premier Powertrain, order all the other replacement parts like coils, hoses, radiator, etc on rockauto then pay someone install for probably $1000 or more less than thag. If you can’t find one id go atk before I went jasper. The reman motors, especially the genuine ford motors have most of the original issues like the oil starvation, the timing chains, can phasers, etc fixed during the reman process, so it’s not the same product that was released 15 years ago. If you can afford it, you might consider having a reman transmission installed at the same time. If you have any mechanical intuition you might consider doing a suspension rebuild if you haven’t already, takes about two days to do, and hopefully you’ve service the transfer case (if 4x4) and gearbox (es). Those diffs and transfer cases last nearly forever if you keep good fluid on them.

seems counterintuitive. The 3.5 twin turbo is built for towing, much more so than the 5.0 and that engine also runs around $3-4k depending on where you get it from, not $8k.

ford crate engine, new not rebuilt is around 8k everywhere I have looked (the 460hp, upgrade takes it to about 13k for the aluminator and you can go full nuts for around 30k for the supercharged model.

I don't buy rebuilt any more from any source, have installed a few and probably 1/3 had problems that meant a pull and return then wait for another.

next one will be ford/new/dealer install and yes it is gonna cost but no where near what a new truck would.

this with auto trans. direct replacement for what I have now.

Makes sense I suppose. Surprised you have issues with reman motors, my understanding is the genuine ford ones are made to some pretty strict quality standards. I’m not even sure there are any new ones available in the 5.4.
