I need to change out my spark plugs on my 2007 200 hp optimax. I pulled one of the plugs and it was a ngk ir izfr5g. I tried to look up these plugs and keep getting the number 5887 izfr5g, is this the same plug? I know the optimax is picky about using the right plug. Thanks.

go to click the link, go to fitment and verify your outboard is on the list.

https://www.ngk.com/ngk-5887-izfr5g-laser-iridium-spark-plug

looks like the 5887 is just a part # for ngk.

The merc guru on another site warned of counterfeit plugs from sellers on Amazon & such. He recommended to only buy from a reputable seller.

Lol, true. He’s yelled at me a few times when I defended people being able to speak about problems that merc has. But apparently the fake iridium spark plug thing is real, I guess if something cost enough, someone will make a scam out of it.

Can’t speak for the fake plugs but he dang sure will delete posts that don’t fit his narrative. Just mention lithium batteries and he head explodes.

If Rock Auto carries that particular plug, that will likely be your best source for NGK plugs. Back when my race car was a nitrous car, we used to buy them 100 at a time from Rock. They had the best price on NGK by far.

Just checked, they're 9.51 on Rock Auto
