Caught several with large black blotches on their heads, on the gil plate and above it. Splotches more than an inch in diameter.

All the time. I've seen more on Ray Roberts than any other lake....when I actually catch them.

Yes, been seeing those for years. Always in the Spring so that it had something to do with spawning.

See it a lot now, it’s a reaction to the radiation of the livescope!

Probably a skin reaction to the chemicals they are using to control grass.

Toledo Bend has had them for 40 years. Fork also . I don't fish much outside of east texas.I put some with black spots in a 20 acre lake 30 years ago and it still has them. I did not know it was a virus. I thought it was hereditary.

I have seen this pretty often. Mostly in spring as several mentioned. Usually on or around the mouth.
Old timer told me once it was caused from people handling fish... hence you see it in spring and around the mouth of the fish.
Not sure that is true but its a theory. More likely a virus.
Interesting they want pictures of them... I have quite a few. Never thought it really hurt the fish. Just seemed like you know... a temporary rash like a person might get in the summer. It goes away. Harmless.
