I was watching an Ike video and he was talking about how big bass are pretty much only caught in “thick cover or deep water”. His deep water definition was “almost the deepest part of the lake”. Now he didn’t say what the definition of BIG was, but let’s go with over 8 lbs. 7 pounders seem plentiful, IMO anyways.

You don’t have to say where (lake), I’m just curious wether your big bass was in thick cover or really deep water.

Probably much different scenario where he’s from vs what we know and experience in Texas. I caught my PB in North Texas in 10 feet of water between light structure and gradual, sloping bank.

I have one spot where we catch over 6 pounders all of the time. They are generally in creek channels with some cover and always 10 to 15 feet deep

Or 6lbers or 5lbers, hell even 4lbers grin, cheers.

As a rule of thumb, I don't take advice on fishing. It's too specific to where you are that day and the conditions. I have caught more big bass in five feet of water or less than I have anywhere else. Some days they're just cruising around looking for an easy meal. Ike was pretty excited to catch a six in a video I watched. I think his main fishing areas are far different from down here.

Just trying to catch em all.

He included tournaments, such as the one at Amistad where they were all catching toads. Not sure if guys remember his “magic tree” during that tournament, it was loaded though.

Come on now, we all know California has the biggest bass on the records.

That’s a possibility and our Texas Parks & Wildlife does keep our lakes stocked pretty well. They need too though, with all the bass eating guys we have down here.

My biggest was caught on a do nothing flat in 9’, similar to the large fish that Ken Smith & Todd Driscoll mentioned in their fish movement series.

We have a certain part of the populous that usually show up at the lakes after hours when fish and game have retired for the evening. They fish and keep everything they catch because, well, it’s their culture bang.
And the only thing that gets stocked in this state is trout.

Anyway, my two over 8 were both caught in less than 10’ in light cover fish.

Huge stumps and huge lay downs. The bigger the better. Less than 8 ft.

Big bass at our Thursday nighter tonight came from a spot between three stumps, about 10-12 feet apart, in 2 FOW. It was 9lbs, 6oz.

My share lunker from Waco a few years ago came on an island edge, in 2 FOW, on the windy side of some rocks. 13.20

Most every bass I have ever caught OVER 8 pounds has come from less than 5 FOW.

Several fish I have caught this year, over 6 pounds, came from 0-2 FOW on dock walkways.

Eat. Sleep. Fish.
