My father is wanting a kayak he can possibly stand in even though he never will. He’s 350 so it needs to be stable, budget $800. What do you guys know of?

A man of that stature is probably better off with an 8’ or 10’ bass buster with a trolling motor

Those are tough demands to meet. Nucanoe has the frontier models but those are going to be a bit more expensive than 800 and also be physically demanding to paddle.

OP like Christian said not really doable unless you have lots of patience, luck and diligence searching the used market. I agree he needs a stable kayak but not to stand in more for stability. There's only a few paddle kayaks made that will hold him plus gear and I've never seen any of them under 1k. Jackson Big Rig is another option but we'll over the 800 budget.

As stated, he'll need more than $800 and it will be tough to find one used. Three yrs ago, I bought a used Jackson Cuda so that I can stand, and I have yet to stand in it. On the lake, I do a lot of sitting. On the bay, I will get out and wade.

I have a 37” wide diablo amigo on the market. The only problem is the weight capacity of the kayak is 600lbs where as the seat is only 250.

He’ll go 1,000 if need be, he’s fine on my striker 11.5 so maybe I’ll buy and sell him mine!

It stinks that all this covid happened. Used to be demo days and all types of community activities. That would allow him to pic the boat he feels most comfortable in. I think most people make a mistake picking a kayak based on price first. I do understand budgets but picking a kayak just because you can afford it is risky. It increases the possibility of a person who may really love the sport but had a bad experience because they didn't get "the right tool". If possible get him in every kayak and canoe you can. See what he likes the most and if necessary, save for it. There IS the right kayak for him, it just takes a little work to find it.

As others have said there are options but outside your budget. Any of the Nucanoe models are pretty stable but new they cost quite a bit more than 800. Same with the Jackson boats. If you insist on paddle then you will need to find one on the used market.

The Pond Prowler/Bass Raider was like less than 800 last year at Bass Pro. Even with a trolling motor you could come in around 1000.
