Help me understand them. Why? I don’t get it. (Note, I have nothing against them, just not my deal. Or at least doesn’t seem like it). Help me understand the allure please. Thanks men.

It’s the only style of tournament that I like to fish, I can concentrate on throwing bigger fish catching lures for a single fish, than running around for 5 keepers and hoping for a kicker or two. Just a preference thing for me.

The ones that pay back hourly are better yet. Easier way to make some money, I won an hour in one this year and third biggest fish overall and received $600 with a $100 entry. $500 payback seems good to me. My buddy just fished one and got a second place in an hour and also won $600. First place every hour in that event paid $1750.

They just seem to pay back better for me.

Well here’s the deal. Some guys like to catch bass and some guys like to catch big bass. And then there’s the rest of us that just type about it on the internet instead of doing it.

A chance to break even or just to get a entry fee back grin

Me and my dad go to the Berkeley and skeeters. It’s just become a yearly tradition for us. We don’t take anything too serious and A good time. Good food and and a chance to win a boat is why we go.

I'm biased because I run them but they're simply more fun and easier for the average angler. No formal launch, multiple weigh ins each day, you can package the days you enter for around your schedule, 200+ paid places in most of them and on and on. The biggest downside is they are typically more crowded but most of the groups running them know how to speed up the process/flow and make it easy. The better question is why anyone would fish a stringer derby... cheers

I’m currently working in New Jersey, I have to fish “Derby’s”. They don’t have tournaments here.

Do they actually call them derbies up there?

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Do they put a number on the side of your boat with duct tape?
