Navigated up Denton Creek off Grapevine Lake for the first time yesterday. Almost made it to FM377. Tried a few promising looking spots but was only able to boat 4 keepers and 2 short throw backs. Water was pretty stained with temps started out at around 58 degrees, ended at around 62 degrees. Sure looks good up the creek, will probably try again in a couple of weeks.

Seems to me to be running right about on time. Mid-late march always tricky because the weather is finicky. Once the weather stabilizes out a bit in the next week or two and we get some consistent warm weather things will pick up. Right now there are a few fish shallow but not enough that I personally would waste my time trying to catch.

I don't creek fish but on Cedar Creek I'm catching a lot of nice 13-14" crappie in 20 ft of water at the mouths of coves on brush piles. Water temps here are still around 60. I'm assuming these are pre-spawn fish -- the bigger fish look to have eggs (I don't keep fish this time of year, so can't be sure).

Two inch rain and high muddy water set them back for awhile.
Seems like there is always another cold front out there to chill the water.
Full moon is on April 16th, they will be back in big numbers then.

Neighbor and I went fishing on Friday (Lake Limestone) and we caught two crappie (13” and 14”) and a few bass. We fished all the usual places that I’ve had success and the places where we should have had success. Fished deep and fished shallow. Fished stumps, trees, bridges, creeks. Water was murky from recent rain, temp was in the 60’s and the water was flat - not much wind.
Got home, put up the boat, and went to see how the Wife did at her county fair doings. She said she sat with a 90 year old couple that lives on Limestone, and the creek they live on is absolutely full of crappie. Their great grandson caught 20 keepers off the dock. Happily, the wife had a lake map and those older folks showed her right where we need to fish. Now, if the wind will die down a bit, I’ll be all over that creek.

We have had warm days but the nights are still pretty chilly. We need some 60+ degree nights to get things going. Heck my Bradford pears don't even have buds on them yet. We are about two weeks late at this point.

Warmest I found way up in the back of a cove on lavon was 62 in the middle of the day on the warmest day we’ve had all year it seems like. Main lake was still 55. Lavon is one of the lakes that warms faster than a lot of the lakes in north Texas, too. The reality is it just isn’t quit warm enough yet. The fish could show up in numbers any day now, but it’s just not quite there yet.
