Lol. Yup, Willis Creek Parking Lot 4, that's the spot. Although most people park off the side the road and hop the little cattle fence on the south side of the creek. I've walked both sides and the trails are better on the south side of the creek. It's a fun little creek, but the banks are super steep. Bring an extra pair of pants because you're probably going to get muddy. Oh, and there's cattle all over the place. Free range, throughout the whole place. Only in Texas. Beware the cow patties. grin

I found this Willis Creek you speak of, fishytx, on the ol' Google Maps! Is it best to park at "Willis Creek Park" and walk upstream from there? Or: someone has marked a "Willis Creek Parking Lot 4" where the creek intersects with CR 348...?

Cheers,
–Jeanette.

welcome Welcome Jeanette

Like JSINN said. Park on the south side of the creek and climb over the cattle gate. There is a creek blocking the path downstream on the north side. Good Luck!!

I fished Nails again on Thursday and Friday evening. I caught 41 in 2 hours on Thursday and only 16 last night. I heard of limits being caught down by the trailway bridge location. They seem to be pulling back to the lake already.

I checked on Newman Bottom but it was still high, muddy and flowing fast so I didn't try fishing it.

I made my first fishing trip this morning in almost 20 years. I’ve always loved fishing but life got in the way. J-Moe told me to try Nails this morning but warned me the whites are moving out the creeks allready. I was able to catch 5 all on a white rooster tail (fishy tales video tip). I fished a double bend in the creek and threw into the shadows. Water was pretty still but I may not have walked down far enough not knowing the creek good enough. Walking out you could have sworn I caught 100 fish because of the huge smile on my face. I needed this more than y’all know. Just being in nature again, the sights, the sounds and even the smells brought me back to my happy place again. Big thanks to all the guys putting info on this board, Fishytx for the informative and entertaining videos and to J-Moe( not only a great big brother but also a damn good fishing mentor).

welcome Welcome Moedawg68

Man I'm glad it turned out well. I was just hoping you caught 5 white bass and didn't get frustrated losing lures. That would make a great day considering the fish are leaving the creeks quickly.

Well Done thumb

Fished the steps and nailed it. Caught over 40 upstream of the steps. Had to wade across the river and fish from other side but well worth the wet shoes. Caught most of them in swift moving water and that's the fun part. Had a very good time today. Started out slow but ended with a bang.

Well I think I can say the 2022 Yegua Creek White Bass Spawning Run is over. Or at least on life support.

I fished Nails from CR125 down to the middle of the first big S Curves. All I caught was one catfish.

I drove over Irwin bridge and the Yegua is still out of the banks and muddy.

I fished the spillway on my way home but didn't catch anything or see anyone else catch any.

The Great news is the white bass will be leaving the creeks and on a mission to fatten up. Everything is setting up for a great shad spawn on the main lake. Overnight temperatures are not forecasted to fall below 50 degrees for the next 10 days and there will be several days with highs in the 80s. The hard freeze really hurt the shad spawn last year. Hopefully we will get a full recovery this year.

I drove over the dam. There were 100s of seagulls rafted up along the banks. There were about 30 rods out on the main lake side of the dam and several boats anchored off the island at Welch park. I talked to one of the fisherman who fished from the bank on the main lake. He said the shad were there but only caught a couple of catfish.

So everyone get the waders ready. It's time to wade out and catch buffalo, catfish, largemouth, white bass and HYBRIDS!!!!!

I saw the coolest thing yesterday. A man and his young son in waders with fly rods fishing together. About five minutes later this lady walks up in waders and fly rod and asked the young kid, son, did you cath those fish that he had on a stringer? The cool part is the entire family fly fishing together. The son followed Dad around and Mom fished somewhat solo as they moved around on the river. All the family fishing together like that was really neat to see.
