We entered the Border Bass Battle tournament on Lake Amistad this Saturday. I was so excited about it that I was awake by 4am, tournament didn't start till 7:30, but I was ready. The moon was still shining bright.


We even got to see the sun come up which was very pretty 😍.

7:30 finally came around. We got our lines in the water and we comenc to fishing. The bite was really slow. We fished several islands before moving to a cliff. This whole time there's Bass boats zooming by taking in fish to get weighed. We just keep on fishing , we caught lmb, small mouth, but they were just not long enough to take in to weigh.
We fished to the end of cliff, turned around and fished it again. About half way back I cast my 1/32 JIGLYF jig tied on to 4lb test line towards the cliff and just let it fall barely giving it a light twitch. The smallmouth just couldn't stand it and hit my jig hard. The fight was on! I wore it out, brought it to the boat and Leo helped me get it into the boat.
I thank the Lord for that fish, I couldn't have done it without him.
We took pics and then put him in the live well. We take off zooming through the lake to get it weighed then Leo said " not now!" It was 11:45 and weigh ins were every hour and the Border patrol pulls us over . It seemed like they were taking their sweet time. Finally after getting checked for everything we take off again towards the boat ramp. Got my fished weighed, 3.58 lbs. I was very happy and excited. I'm still to this day in disbelief. Never in my life did I think I was going to enter a fishing tournament and win biggest overall smallmouth I also want to add that in the seven years they have been doing this tournament, my smallmouth is the biggest recorded.

Side Note. Jiglyf jigs. The jigs that catch anything that swims.

Congrats to you both! Your hard work on making your jigs and the many hours of testing has paid off.
