Well it's hear. The spring pattern. And by that I mean boat traffic has increased about 6000%! roflmao

But seriously today (3/19) I did find the blues in a spring pattern. I caught a bunch of fish in 8 to 10 feet of water. Everything was under 10 pounds. They acted like they were in pre-spawn mode. Very aggressive takedowns; feeding up. Surface temp was from 55 to 58 degrees. After the rains coming this week (I pray we get some good rain and no hail) I think next weekend they will be thick up shallow on the north end.

So, going against my typical process, I kept a few eaters and we are gonna have catfish for dinner after church tomorrow! food

GB & TL...

Glad you had some action up in the creeks today, Tim.

I was going to head out myself, but a combo of 'life' delaying my launch and yet more wind (grrrr....not forecast) and BOATS and I decided to postpone.

Good info. So the north end of the lake is where one should start? What about south end of the lake and north end of a cove?

Start looking where the fresh water is coming into the lake. I say North end because that is typically where the feeder creeks and rivers enter the impoundments. Shallow warm water with fresh food will draw the bait fish and the blues will follow the bait. Good hunting! Sounds like we may get a good rain today, along with the wind and hail. I could do without that...

A few questions for the collective from this spring cat'n n00b if I may.

Now the transition in in progress, how do y'all fish the shallows/creeks?

Do you drift and pull baits or do you anchor/tie to trees?

Do you cast big weights or floats (bobbers)?

Do you fish big baits (gizzard shad/other fish heads half fish baits), whole smaller thread fin shad or small cut baits?

Thanks in advice.

i fished this last weekend and got a bunch of teens and a couple over 20 they are still trying to decide on moving in. some have... some are still thinking about it lol when I go to shallow I like to tie to trees. and then put on anchor out the back to keep me a little straight. I try all different sizes and parts I will try big heads and then body chunks and also try little chunks. and when you bring them in look at what they hit and remember it. if you get 2 or 3 of small pieces and none on the big pieces then down size if they are hitting big then upsize. everyday is different. I dont like using threadfin they are not as bloody or have as much oil. I use 2 or 3 oz no roll for shallow. I dont use floats under 10 ft of water. that is just what i do. some people do different things so they can add to it. steve

Bob in shallow water most of the time I will anchor up with 2 anchors to keep the boat from swaying. or tie the front to a tree if there is one good enough to tie to and then an anchor off the back. Most of the time I will fish smaller hooks (5/0 or 6/0) and smaller baits. Although I have caught some giants this time of the year and the smaller hooks make me nervous. HAHA. This time of year is usually about numbers and not going for huge fish for me.

Matt, you took the words right out of my keyboard! I would have said almost exactly the same thing. Down size hooks and baits. I will still chunk a big bait out on an 8/0 but I will change most of them out to 5/0. Smaller baits to go with the smaller hooks. I will tie to a tree. Anchors only always sways too much for me. I have caught some big fish this time of year too. And some of them have come on tiny baits...

Thanks guys, very much appreciated.

I have only tied to trees so far but will try one end to an anchor line next trip.

Smaller hooks and smaller baits, check (and thanks).

Well maybe one BIG bait and hook, coz you never know…..

A BIG downpour this afternoon, actually flooded the access road by my boat storage, so hoping it has at least some effect on the lake. It was blowing a hooley when I drove across the bridge up at Highland Park.

Lavon is up about 4 tenths as of 5:00 am this morning. It helped but we need a lot more...

I drove across then north end of Lavon today and oh man was that water muddy. It looked like ox tail soup.

Driving the same route tomorrow, so will see if the water color has changed and or the level has gone up at all.

Before the rain on Monday Lavon was 488.06. This morning it has leveled off at 488.88. So she is up about 8 tenths of a foot. The rain this week helped but we need more!
