If you picked up a reel that wasn't yours, how could you tell whether it has fluorocarbon or monofilament on the spool?

No, too many variables with different lines. Could be x-strong mono and feel stiff like fluoro.

Generally if you stretch it and the curls go away it's fluoro, at least that's my understanding. Mono keeps its memory better. You can stretch fluorocarbon out and it will go limp but Mono will curl back up (at least a little bit).

Put it in a pipe and smoke it. If it packs an awesome buzz, it's fluoro.

I use P-Line mono coated with fluoro....pure fluoro is too expensive. P-Line FluoroClear Mist Green in bulk spools my "go to" without breaking the bank
