Anyone have any recommendations for a good travel agent in DFW? The lady I normally use has dropped the ball.

I know one other person who still uses a travel agent. Unfortunately, they aren't in DFW.

I didn’t think travel agents still existed. Expedia, internet and a credit card.

If you decide on Costa Rica go check the following website. It’s called twoweeksincostarica.com. Matt & Jen are a younger couple that moved from the U.S. to Costa Rica several years ago. They have some planning fee based options to help you or you can read articles to learn about the different areas, lodging etc. in Costa Rica.

Triple AAA of Texas if you are a member. They've had IATA accreditations for years.

Costa Rica is awesome, one place you have to go to is Tabacon Resort at the base of Mount Arenal. Believe me, this is a must do, we did not want to leave after spending the day there, but had to get back to Los Suenos Resort, which was awesome as well. Visit the websites & check them out. Enjoy your Honeymoon & Congrats!

I use Costco Travel, must be a Costco member

Pretty good rates and they have Costa Rica as a destination

Costco offer free trip cancellation refunds, I think it like 85% full refund if you cancel up to like 3 days before the trip.

Lots of discount travel websites out there if you can spend a few minutes doing it yourself.

I have used Travelzoo several times and Priceline has some offerings as well.

west coast has the all inclusive resorts and excellent fishing, you can fly to liberia and cut some of the drive time from san jose.

east side has some awesome sightseeing, in limon you can take a tour of the inland waterway and see all kinds of critters, usually a lot of sloths and monkeys, caiman and saltwater crocs (not many crocs tho) and birds etc. there is a long canopy zip line that is pretty cool, rivers to take raft trips on (caiman up close and personal).

if you just want someplace to hang without touristy crowds etc. manzanillo in the far se corner is the place, small community with a lot of rentals and locals on vacation. where we fished out of while there, maxis restaurant has great local food and will cook up any fish you catch/bring if you want them to

you can rent cars/suvs, get the suv for carrying stuff you buy. just beware that they drive worse than dfw/houston combined, there can be 4 wide on a 2 lane. watch your speed (they use km).

san jose has some stuff but most of the cool things are out in the countryside/small towns.

I will see if I can find the place we went and caught trout then had them cooked up for lunch in the restaurant, really cool spot in the mts.

if you have any special things you want to do/see etc. pm me and I will try, used to spend a month a yr. fishing and just goofin off.

as for booking the trip, look at west coast resorts if that is what you want then call them and see if they can package a trip for you, depending on time of yr. you can get some great deals.
I always just used expedia and compared airfare with calling direct to airline. flying out of dfw makes it pretty easy to find flights, most will connect in houston but there are some direct.

had a house available so never had to book a room but it is pretty easy if you package on expedia and similar places.

west coast is the tourist destination so all kinds of folks there.

east coast has a heavy jamaican population/influence with a lot of german tourists usually along with locals.

I believe that the value of a good travel agent lies in the fact that the agent has actually been to a bunch of places and can give you some good firsthand advice on a specific destination, provided that you trust the agent's opinion. We have a lady that we will call for advice when we want to go somewhere that we haven't been. I'd trust her opinion over a bunch of rando yelpers.

As far as pricing goes, the agents realize that they have to be competitive with expedia, hotwire, etc and usually are.
