Personally i would find someone who is passionate about their work, and has a good warranty. Do what they say on breaking in the rebuild. And then, don't drive it like you stole it. You need to let them breathe every now and then, but if you have to drive around full throttle all the time your motor is too small. This is not the case on your setup. You already have her setup, so you are going to skip allot of the work of setting up another boat.

were it me I would send whole engine to hydrotech and get them to rebuild it with a phase II kit, have them upgrade the lower with their propshaft etc.

you get it back broken in and ready to RRRRRRUUUUUUUMMMMMMMBBBBBBBLLLLLLLE.

I have known a few folks that did similar with them and never a complaint, I did business with them on an engine swap and it couldn't have been easier.

A couple of years ago when Evinrude announced they were going out of business and the one I owned was the hardest starting motor I have ever owned I decided to get a Mercury EFI.
RTee from Lake Fork said that Randy Barksdale (469-222-1807) is really good at rebuilding old motors. We made a deal and he put on a rebuilt 200 HP on my Ranger, and it started every time. Cold or hot or really cold it was turn the key and it started. I had a compression test done on it this spring and it is still all good.
Randy's place is just east of Farmersville.

Take it to Missouri to Hydro tec. Alot cheaper than a new rig. They will turn it into a monster and it will be done better than anyone else will do, guaranteed.

Thought a good thread to ask- what is opinion of Suzuki motors? I'm starting to hear very good reviews from fisherman. Thanks all.

If you rebuild, make sure the Tech first diagnoses the cause of engine failure.

You don't want to slap a new power head on there have it fail 6 months later due to a bad injector, oil pump or some other defective part.

I have been told they are hard to prop for a bass boat, they are excellent outboards from all I have seen. they use them in costa rica along with yamaha and nissans.

Extremely reliable and durable. Quiet too. Like Hop mentioned, difficult to prop on bass boats and they're not the fastest.

One of my department's work boats has a Zuki. It gets absolutely abused in the field. Those running that boat usually destroy 2 or 3 props a year from stump and rock jetty impacts but the engine keeps on running perfectly.

Suzuki is a great motor as far as reliability goes.

Suzuki - I bought a new 60 HP in 1983 and drove it until 2000 when I bought a new boat, motor was still running like new and I was so happy with it's performance that I put a new Suzuki on the new boat in 2000, a 140 HP. I repowered my 2000 year boat in 2012 but the 140 HP Suzuki was still running great with no problems so I put it in the barn and it stayed there until around 2020 when I put it back on the 2000 year boat which my son has now. The 140 Suzuki is still running strong with no major problems. I ordered a new Suzuki last year but finally decided to stick with my Honda, $20,000 was just too much money for a new motor.

You see a lot of people on the coast that repower with a Suzuki.

I did a rebuild in December of 2018 with Hydrotec in Missouri. 2005 yamaha 225hpdi... still running strong, just make sure you get the dang fuel filters changed and watch your fuel lines. They diagnosed mine as a fuel issue, lines were eaten up on the inside starving the engine of fuel. I now get that all checked annually. I drove up the night before and dropped it off when they opened the shop in the morning, super nice guys and very informative, picked it up in the afternoon and drove it back home. Lots of driving but saved me quite a bit over shipping it off.

My partner replaced his Evenrude 250 H.O. on his Ranger 521 with the Suzuki 250 SS. Absolutely best decision ever made. That motor is so insanely good I can't even begin to tell you. It turned that 521 into a whole new boat. Did lose 3 mph but by lord does that boat drive and handle 10000x better. If my Yamaha blows on my Champion I'll have that Suzuki on it ASAP. His dealer told him he doubts he will ever need to bring it In as he has customers with 5,000 hours on that motor with just your routine maintenance being done and that can all be done at home.

Yes, ended up being a full block swap. I called ahead of time and talked to them, told them my situation and they said they could get it done in a day, and they did.
