How well does it hold up for you?
Any issues with knot slippage?
Memory?
Do you like it for skipping and pitching, if not what do you use?
Do you change your line often or after a tournament?

The reason I ask is, I'm thinking about switching out a couple of reels (baitcasters) that have braid on them.

I have tried every line style and most brands in my 55 years of fishing. I have caught 10X more fish on Big Game than all others combined. No issues with knots if you tie a good one. It does have some memory so when I spool it up, I use a rag soaked with KVD and run the line through it. I still use fluro and braid on some set-ups but I always have a few with BG tied on. And to be perfectly honest, unless I have had to cut a bunch of it off I don't change it until then.

Big game is strong as hell but it will have memory coils and just like most mono, stretches like a rubber band. Only thing I use mono for these days is backing. Floro and braid only.

Big Game is a very good mono line for the price but there are many copolymer lines out there that are better.

Big Game is my favorite budget friendly line. It’s on all my reels that don’t have InvisX. I replace it when it gets low.

I use big game on all moving baits like cranks, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits,etc, fluorocarbon on bottom contact and braid on c-rigs and frogs.

Big Game is all you need for mono. Decent price. Strong.

Palomar knot and big game is bullet proof. If you dont have a trolling motor, spool up some 15lb big game and pull your way around with a big treble hook and a large weight. It's tough stuff, and best bang for your buck. Remember mono floats, it's a great line for topwater baits when you want to walk the dog.


That is all I fished with from the early 90's to 2010'ish. Got away from mono for a little while, but when i pull out the pop-r, or another "secret" topwater bait I pull out the 15lb and 20lb big game.

I am having the same internal debate and interested in the comments. I have been using Big Game on all my reels but am plagued with line memory and the easy backlashing that comes with it. I have two empty reels right now that I am trying to decide what line to put back on them. Big Game seems stiff and coils easily. Knots have not been a problem.

I have been using baitcast reels for a long time and use good ones. Recently, I have been trying to pitch under docks but frequently get a backlash. I have adjusted the spool tension and backlash control every which way. Braid to leader seems to be a pain. I need to be able to pitch under docks since that is the major structure on my home lake.

Any line you use (other than braid) will have memory. However, you can't go wrong with Big Game for most moving bait applications. We never had the fancy flurocarbon back in the old days and it performed just fine. I saw an interview with Rick Clunn and to this day he uses mono on 85% of the baits he fishes. I think the greatest angler in history may know a thing or two....food for thought....

out of probably 12 rods in the boat ready to go I have big game 15# on 8, p line 15# copolymer on the rest.

been fishing for about 60 yrs. using it for as long as I can remember with no problems.
palomar knot is all I tie and do not remember breaking a knot or having any problems like that.

sounds like you may be just throwing too hard, only way I can skip is using just my wrist while barely moving my arm otherwise I will screw up the cast and probably backlash.

what about catfish?

Big Game is as good as it gets for mono. The biggest problem I see is folks only fill their reels 60-70%. The smaller the diameter of the spool the more memory it holds. Fill the reel all the way to the edge of the spool adjust your brakes accordingly. Change line frequently.

It is cheap so it won't break the bank changing it out every couple of weeks. Also, I never strip my reel all the way to the spool. I leave about 20-30 yards and just tie onto that to put fresh line on. That saves a lot of time.
