I never targeted flatheads but we have a small tournament series here in Southeast Texas and have about 3 of our tournaments a year on rivers so I thought I needed a lesson .
We hit the Trinity east of Houston and there was no flow on the river to speak of.
Our first spot we tried we landed a small Flathead and 8 pound blue. The next spot we had a good fish on that hung us
Up a pulled off in the cover. We caught one more small Flathead and a few Blues to 13 pounds before the bite died.
We had a few Gar runs but only landed one 3 and half footer.
It was pretty fun day .

Dewayne, man I love fishing rivers for cats. I feel like I can pattern them a lot easier than I can in a lake. I can definitely target flatheads better. Great job! Looks like you had a great time.

Those flattys look amazing. I really want to get into a couple of those this year. I am going to spend some time targeting them at night. Sounds like you had a pretty good day on the river and that's all a guy can ask...

Well done Dwayne...

Thanks guys itโ€™s something a little different for me but look forward to learning more. I also want to see how my
Lowrance Active Target can be used in this type of fishing.

Chris I went with a friend who has experience on the river so it helps the learning curve . Tryin to figure out what structure and cover to fish is the hard part we probably ran 15 miles up river. There is no shortcut to experience
But at least I am not as intimidated as I was and just need to fish and learn.

Come on down .

Those are still some nice fish!
I have caught a few locally but we do the brazos below possum kingdom dam about 2-3 times a year on overnight trips and usually we do very good there-
I love fighting those river flatheads, very powerful beast!
Good luck and enjoy the learning curve!
