I did the same thing back in December, when the drum got close to the surface it even looked like a big bass.

Briann, usually the bigger freshwater drum don't taste as good as a 4-7 pounders. And they are really good when fileted and skinned and broiled with some lemon butter. Nice white flakey meat.
For Paul, I have never tried to eat a mud fish.

I caught a 23# Smallmouth Buffalo on a DD 22 years ago on Conroe. Not foul hooked. It bit the DD22. For a few seconds I thought I had the lake record Bass hooked. Then I figured maybe the record Smallmouth Buffalo. Not even close. Record was in the 40# range. Today it’s just over 50#.
