Going to remove hot foot and put throttle on shift lever! Can a so so mechanic do is there any tricks to it?? Thanks

I have put them on two boats and found that the cables that went to the control was too short to reach the new Hotfoot, so I had to buy and install longer cables. I just left the old ones attached to the shift control and left it so that it would be easy to reattach it if I ever wanted to remove the Hotfoot. Maybe whoever installed yours did the same thing which would make it easy to do.
