I currently have a HDS gen 3 at the front of my boat. Looking to swap it to a Carbon or a Live in order to get Active Target in the future. Is it a plug and play swap? or will I need cables as well to make it compatible with the GEN 3 that will be at the console?

All the same cables Except with a Live you may need a 7 to 9pin adaptor since the Lives were changed to 9 pin connectors over any other HDS. This mostly applies to Transducers installed on your boat already.

I did the same conversion (from HDS Gen 3 to Live) and all I needed was the 7 to 9 pin adaptor which I bought from BassPro. (no waiting on shipping and they had plenty in stock)
